Has anyone built one?
Any Idea where to get scrap blocks? Craigslist seems to be priced at least for the core price you'd get
I was thinking a SBC for the coffee table, and two Ecotecs for end tables.

I've been planning on building a table with camshafts for legs and a whole bunch of gaskets arranged to form a perfect rectangle for the top. (covered in glass, of course)
Only problem there is it hasn't been done before, so I don't know how it would actually look.

10/10 would include in my home decor, maybe if my 4.0 ever kicks the bucket it'd make a nice bedside table.
Also need some of these bad boys to go with it:

Right now I am building one. Its a V8 Chevy engine from a big ass truck, I just finished getting it painted. I need to find a way to hold the glass and come up with a price. Sorry, no photos.

I'm planning on doing some things like this, but the only block I'd have available is a slant-4. Not good for a table :\
So I'ma do something with the head and camshafts, maybe other innards I'm not re-using.

I have a DISI 2.3L out of a CX-7 I was planning on turning into a table, then moved and now have nowhere to put it.

I have been tempted to build one out of a Ford modular V8 block since the 2v are cheap. I just have to wait till the kids are older.

If (let's be honest, when) I blow up the Cobalt, I fully plan on making it into a table. I also wouldn't mind making one with a V-something so that I can use it as a wine rack, since I don't think it would work as well with the Ecotec.

That's the working plan for my ol ford 3.8, when she eventually kicks it. In my dreams the stang gets an i6 and the v6 becomes memorial table
I just hope she can last a few more years

Go find a local scrap yard or automotive recycler. We found one in DFW that scraps unusable engine blocks and parts and ultimately the metal. We gave them a call, said we wanted an aluminum V8, and by the time we arrived they had a nice Aluminum 5.4 Ford block cleaned and ready for us. The block was slightly, almost unnoticeably, damaged from a frontal impact (small crack around the water pump) and we got it for scrap aluminum price, which was about $75 at the time.

A prof I had in university had an old inline 4 Volvo motor cut right down the middle and a piece of glass on top for a coffee table in his office. It was pretty awesome and he said he got the block cut with a big bandsaw and each piece cut in half and put back in place.

I have a Subaru engine in my garage that is headed for a table at some point. I really want to do a kind of exploded view of the engine with suspended parts.

If you are building this for yourself, I would suggest choosing an engine that you are a fan of. Check your local salvage yards. If you do find the correct block and it happens to be a filthy mess, search for a local business that can media blast the block.

Have you tried your local pick-n-pull junkyard? I'd think that they would have a pretty good selection of blocks. I've been wanting to do the same thing but haven't started the search for the materials yet.

the biggest bottles of wine are 4in in diameter, same as a small block Chevy bore.

It's more the fact the V should would be easier to fit the bottles in from an access standpoint since they are tilted.

I have 2 I'm working on, or not working on.
The 4.0 jeep motor: I started one tore it down then sold o for $50 then bought another for $50, it is still strapped to them moving dolly from when I brought it home.
The 1MZFE ALUMINUM block 6cly that's in Lexus rx300 around the late 90's.
After I tore down the first 4.0 that thing is super heavy, so I got the aluminum block thinking it'd be lighter, and haven't gotten very far on it.
The 4.0 I want to build for a buddy's 4wd/ keep shop for showroom and maybe trade some parts or labor for it.
